Mechanical Engineer

The candidate will be responsible to create best in class structure and instruments working together with other system architects. Successful candidates will be adept at setting design direction, deeply involved on a day-to-day basis with the design engineers, and apply very high standards for the work output of their team and their own work. Proven track record of developing products from concept to mass production. Successful candidate will demonstrate creative design and design for manufacturing skills.






  • Perform mechanical design and layout trade studies for S/C mechanisms contributing to overall system architecture including inputs and requirements from cross discipline teams - Electrical, RF, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test.
  • Design spacecraft mechanical structures, assemblies, and components with 3D CAD modeling software (Creo)
  • Generate and maintain engineering and manufacturing documentation such as drawings, bills of materials, etc.
  • Establish and deliver on structural development plans, leading efforts within a small, cross-functional team to meet program cost, schedule, and technical objectives
  • Document design, analysis, and test results in technical reports and presentations
  • Develop test plans for mechanical components and assemblies
  • Coordinate engineering design packages with systems engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing, quality, and program management
  • Use engineering judgement to make decisions when all required data may not be available
  • Seek out new technologies, tools and approaches to maintain Antaris’s position as a leader in efficient space system engineering
  • Gather and process data to ensure that hardware is operating as expected
  • Lead failure investigations and drive changes to improve reliability and/or production rate


  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience in mechanical design and analysis on cross functional teams (including but not limited to antenna, optical, avionics, or consumer electronics hardware)
  • Strong demonstrated capability in design, CAD and FEA
  • Project experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with design for high volume production with a focus on design for manufacturability
  • Experience working with PCB designers and exposure to PCB layout and PCBA mechanical design
  • Experience working on antenna systems including phased array and steered parabolic designs
  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated understanding on thermal management strategies
  • Knowledge of and experience in selecting materials, manufacturing methods, and surface treatments for mechanical components
  • Proficiency with GD&T and tolerance analysis for multi-component assemblies
  • Innovative, driven, out of the box thinker, self-motivated to investigate and implement new ideas, and proactive in overcoming obstacles
  • Very strong communication, teamwork and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively across multi-disciplinary teams
